Governance
Our governors are responsible for ensuring a high-quality student experience that meets the needs of the local community.
This will include remaining informed about what children are learning and the progress they are making, making sure children are safe, ensuring resources are used effectively, and engaging the stakeholders.
Find out more about our Co-op Academies Trust governance on our Trust website.
Governance and what it means
Governors are volunteers who give up their time to help the academy be the best it can be. Their role is to work together with academy leaders to set the strategic direction of the academy.
The academy is a member of a trust which delegates certain decision-making powers to our Academy Governing Council.
Co-op Academies Trust is a multi-academy trust which runs a number of academies. Please visit the Trust website to find out about the Trust Board and also to view the Trust’s Annual Report, Policies and Financial Statements.
The Trust operate within an established Scheme of Delegation detailing those matters that are reserved for the Board and those delegated to governors and the Headteacher:
- Decisions reserved for the Trust Board include providing strategic direction to the Trust, ensuring financial viability, establishing an Audit Committee and compliance with Department for Education requirements.
- The governors at each academy are responsible for ensuring a high-quality student experience that meets the needs of the local community. This will include remaining informed about what children are learning and the progress they are making, making sure children are safe, ensuring resources are used effectively and engaging the stakeholders.
How our Academy Governing Council is organised
The Academy Governing Council consists of 8 to 12 governors, of which between 2 to 4 governors are appointed by the sponsor. In addition, the Academy Governing Council includes 1 staff governor, 2 parent governors and the Headteacher. The academy governing council can then appoint a number of community governors to be representative of the local community, provide insight into local partnership links, or bring a particular skillset.

Parent Governor Vacancy
We currently have one vacancy for a Parent Governor on our Academy Governing Council.
As a parent governor, you will be the representative voice from the parental community. This is different from being elected as a representative of the parents and you will not be expected to canvass the options of all parents. Of elected, you will vote and make decisions on the basis of your own views - not the collective views of the parents.
If you would like to know more about the role you may contact our Governance Manager, Katie Whitmore: katie.whitmore@coopacademies.co.uk.
Information packs and nomination forms can be downloaded from Class Dojo, collected from the school office, emailed upon request or found in the 'Latest Updates' section of this website.

Frances Edwards (Chair)
Hi, I'm Frances, the current Chair of Governors at Clarice Cliff. I heard about becoming a Governor through the Co-op where I worked as a senior manager in the HR team for many years. Not only does it provide me with the opportunity to give something back to my local community but I also get the chance to be involved in the world of education, something I've been interested in since I first left university many years ago. I originally wanted to train to be an educational psychologist but my career took a different turn so it's lovely to have the chance to now return to education as a Governor. I live locally and as well as being a Governor, I work part time for the NHS in Stafford. When I'm not working I am usually busy attempting to keep fit or trying to keep my garden under control, as well as spending time visiting my two sons. I love baking but it usually results in the need to do even more exercise, I play the piano (badly) and have ambitions to take up painting but recognise that I have no talent and have yet to find time to start! As a governing board, most of us are quite new to the role but we aim to visit the Academy regularly. If you see us wandering about, do come and say 'hello' as we love hearing from people connected with the school, particularly parents/carers. And if any parent/carer would like to join us as a governor, that would be great so please get in touch if you are interested. |
