What a wonderful trip to Apedale Heritage Centre for Year 3.

As part of their local history topic on Apedale Colliery, they explored deep inside the coal mine and all the children were very excited and very brave when walking down towards the bottom of the mine.

They learnt all about how dangerous and hard it was working in the mines and the dark, cold conditions that were down there. Then, after a lovely lunch, they explored the museum and learnt all about how people were rescued during disasters in the mines and what home life was like for mining families.

We had such wonderful tour guides who taught us so much and we would like to say a huge thank you to all of the people who helped make our trip to the Centre special.
